Meowing is a common sound that most cats make. However, some felines tend to be more vocal than others. Vocalization in cats also reveal their personality and breed as well. The fact of the matter is that same cats are more talkative than others. For example, oriental breeds are the most vocal of all cat breeds while Maine coons are usually less talkative.

It is important to understand that cats make many sounds besides the basic meow sound. Each of these sounds denote a different meaning. For example, if you're kitty is feeling happy then it may purr or make a little squeaks of pleasure. But, if it is felling aggressive or angry then it may growl, spit and shriek.

Hypervocalization is one such cat behavior, which involve excessive meowing or vocalizing. Determining whether vocalization is excessive or not depend mainly from one cat to another. Familiarization with your cat's personality and noise level will help you determine whether or not its vocalization is excessive.
