Adopting An Older Golden Retriever

Owner
Nathaniel

There are a lot of people who want to keep a Golden Retriever as a pet. So if you are one of them, then read on. The fact is that even if the desire to adopt a Golden Retriever is high, a lot of the individuals are not happy with the thought of going through the puppy stage. And above all, if the person concerned is old and is looking for a watchdog of sorts but cannot bring up a pup.

As far as my experience is concerned, I think that golden Retrievers are generally good tempered unless they have not faced any kind of ill treatment from their owners. Normally the behavior is nice!

The older lot is, naturally deal in a matured manner and that is why they are more mature as compared to others and their training is complete. They work in a very good way especially in a situation when they would be alone for long periods of time as they have a nature of adjusting quite well in all kinds of situation. Age is not all that important as they have the tendency to fast settle down into their new homes.

If you are eager to adopt one , then you should keep a lot of things in mind when adopting an older Golden Retriever. You must have all kind of knowledge and gather as much info as possible about the dog. What does it likes and dislikes, what are its eating habits, what are its daily routine habits, and things like that! Your family members should have a brief meeting with the dog. treat it as a member of your family. so the dog knows the family and is not in for any surprises. Get all the information about the dog’s medical and birth history if possible, this is done so in order to make yourself aware of what may in store for you regarding illnesses.

Your family should be comfortable to the whole idea of adopting the dog in question, as no one should have any kind of doubt! Once all these things are taken care of, you can go for the adoption procedure!

After the dog gets inside your home, give it time to adjust to the ambiance, to get used to the surroundings, to have a fair look at all the rooms and the smells in the house, so that he can become familiar.

Give the dog about a month to settle down before you start with the whole process of obedience training with the dog!
