Here are some tips to keep your pet healthy:

  1. See if your pet's diet is nutritional. Read the list of ingredients on the label of your pet's food and look for good quality protein such as chicken or beef rather than a byproduct. If possible, find out where the food is produced and in what type of facility. It is also necessary to avoid lower-quality products such as corn.
  2. Offer healthy snacks. It is s good idea to serve your pet fruits or vegetables, either cooked or raw, such as carrots and apples, instead of giving them unhealthy snacks. Green leafy vegetables are high in vitamins and anti-oxidants. Feeding your animals onions, kale, grapes and raisins is a strict no-no because they can be toxic.
  3. Promote your pet's good oral hygiene. People don't realize the relation between the health of a pet's mouth and its body. Bacteria that forms in a pet's mouth can affects its heart, liver and kidneys. The answer is to brush your pet's teeth.
  4. Make sure your pet gets regular exercise. Exercise helps with the pet's blood circulation. It also helps keep the muscles in good shape and prevents obesity. The same applies to cats.
  5. Avoid over-vaccinations. According to the law, dogs and cats need rabies vaccinations every one to three years. If you don't travel with your pet, you might get a waiver for the rabies vaccine.
  6. Use massage and range of motion exercises on your pet. These exercises serve to flex and extend each limb.
  7. Remember that there are alternatives to traditional medicine, particularly when it comes to antibiotics and steroids. Licorice may be appropriate for use instead of prednisone. Chinese & Western herbs may be used for their anti-microbial & other properties."
  8. Avoid overuse of traditional medicines to prevent fleas and ticks. The traditional medicines are insecticides, better used sparingly. Alternatively you can use camphor oil or African sage.
  9. Create a peaceful home environment for your pet. The same stressors that affect human beings are stressors on animals. Use music and aromatherapy to make a calm home."
  10. Find a good veterinarian.
