Transpersonal Astrology

When it comes to astrology that has evolved over the years, we can say that there are at least three different approaches. What astrologers have practiced over thousands years, is the event-oriented approach. It can be said as the predictive, fatalistic approach, where we human beings are considered as helpless victims subjected to the overwhelming forces of the planets. And this is why we are needed to overcome the "bad" aspects in our birth charts and avoid the predictable crises that are "caused" by the planets.

This sort of astrology however, is not inspiring or empowering. But, this is also the fact that this is exactly the kind of astrology that most of us have been familiar to. While we should be provided with information about our highest potential and how to actualize it, but unfortunately, we are left with warnings to watch out for certain transits or predictions that can dis-empower our efforts to achieve what is seeking expression from within.

However, it can not be said that astrology has not progressed. Yes, astrology has progressed into a second stage, and which could be called the humanistic, or person-centered approach. As opposed to the prevailing approach, it focuses more on prediction and the "good or bad" effect of planetary influences. It basically views the individual as an essentially whole person in the process of becoming.

In this approach, the birth chart is not something that needs to be overcome, as well as it is not being judged in terms of good or bad. The humanistic astrologers seek to help the individual harmonize the various aspects and functions of the personality represented by the planets, houses, zodiacal signs, and aspects. From the humanistic point of view, the challenging aspects of the chart are seen as needed experiences in the act of becoming.

The third approach is called Transpersonal Astrology, whose goal is not necessarily the integration or harmonization of the personality. According to transpersonal perspective, personal fulfillment is only one of many phases in the transformation process that leads to a higher level of consciousness. Transpersonal Astrology offers the possibility of using each and every challenging aspect and opportunity in the birth chart as vital to human transformation.
