The Journey of Books

In today’s fast moving world, books have become a common feature. You'll find book on almost every topic be it arts, science, commerce, history, literature, poetry, and other contemporary subjects. Since the invention of printing press, publishing and printing of books has become easier and more widespread. In the olden days, books were written by hand, which made them expensive and rare. Let us travel a little back in time to discover the journey of books till date.

History:
Books has been derived from an Old English word called ‘b?c”. it can be defined as “A set of written, printed, or blank pages fastened along one side and encased between protective covers.”

Chinese people more than 1300 B.C., tied together bamboo strips with chords to serve as books. In Egypt, more than 3000 B.C., the Mesopotamians are believed to wrote books on clay tablets. Although, writing text on palm leaves were originated from ancient India. These early writers would preserver these books for posterity and hand them down from generation-to-generation, for preservation and dissemination of knowledge.

By the 19th century, Johannes Gutenberg developed printing press to meet the demand for books. Thus, bringing the cost of books down to a considerable level. He is also credited with printing the first real book - the Gutenberg Bible.

Over the years, publishing and printing books have undergone sea change. Today, books are printed using a number of sophisticated processes.

Classification of Books:

Books can be classified into different categories according to their content. However, fiction and non-fiction books are considered to be one of the most popular type of books. Where, fiction books contain fictitious material, like mythical, artificial and spurious elements. Novels are considered to be the most common form of fictional books.

Non-fictional books contain useful information as opposed to fiction books. One of the most common examples of non-fiction books are reference books. Other books can include handbooks, almanacs, encyclopedias, atlases, instruction manuals, and others. Usually, school and college textbooks fall under this category.

Some of the other categories for books are romance, comedy, drama, detective, and more. So, pick a book today, and be a part of it.
