Most business experts say that if your company have less than 1% market share then, it should be able to grow in any economy. All you need to do is focus your attention on prospecting better, and you will be able to increase sales easily.

Here are the basic rules on improving sales in a poor economy:

  1. Goals – It is very important that you set certain goals for yourself to achieve. Make sure the goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-based. Prospecting is one most commonly skipped steps during goal establishment. It is essential to take into account all the prospects placing greater emphasis on higher value activities.
  2. Measurement – Studies show that sales manager who regularly submit their report on their activity, perform better as compared to others. You must understand that the more detailed your activity tracking, the better you learn and the more you can predict. This step will help you identify goals that remained unaccomplished or the performance of a team member.
  3. Be Prepared – It is good to remain mentally prepared before you accomplish any of the set goals. In addition, you should also take into account the client point of view. You should be able to explain to someone what a good referral is for you.
  4. Schedule Time – You should accomplish your goals according to the schedule. It will help you keep track of all the important things.
  5. Messages - When prospecting, make sure to avoid leaving any messages behind voice mail, e-mail, and text messaging. As, it may lead to rejection. Suppose you need to leave a message you must be creative.
  6. Consistency – It is important to prospect in a consistent manner. You may leave prospecting only if there is no work that day. Failing to prospect is equivalent to inconsistent behavior.
