To gather attention of the listeners when you speak is one of the key elements in communication skills. These skills are known to affect your interpersonal relationships with others especially in a working environment.

Following are some of the key skills that can make your personality shine whenever you speak.

  • INTELLIGENT – Whenever you speak make sure to speak a bit slower to allow yourself to select the your most appropriate tone. Ensure to pause at important points to give the right impression of thoughtfulness. It will also allow you to attract the attention of listener.
  • POWERFUL – It is important to speak clearly. You shouldn't either shout or whisper. The sentences you speak should be short and simple. Avoid using any big words, adjectives and adverbs, especially superlatives.
  • POLISHED – You should never answer a question with a blunt 'yes' or 'no.' make sure to use a short phrase of clarification along with the answer.
  • ARTICULATE – Generally, people judge others on the basis of their vocabulary. So, when you speak make a special effort to pronounce the final sound in a word and use its energy to carry over to the following word. If you are unsure about a word, it's better not to use it, as it may bring down your communication skill instead of boosting it up.
  • CONFIDENT – Another important element to bring the attention of the listener is to carry a confident image. When you move make sure your arms and legs don't have a side-to-side motion when you move. Since, the body movement is known to reveal a lot about your attitude and thought. Hence, it is important to control them to enhance your communication skill.

Just like any other personal skills, even communication skills can't be taught. One can only guide you the way. So, practice your communication skills to improve your personality each time you speak.
