Online education is a newer concept, however, it has been becoming a popular and cheap means for delivering teaching to individuals outside the classroom. Online education can be delivered through CD, websites, or through real-time online facilities such as webcasts, webinars and virtual classrooms. With each means of online education, there are a number of advantages and disadvantages. Here are a few problems one can find in different online education environments:

Lack of immediate feedback in asynchronous learning environments: There are many online education environments, such as webcasts, webinars and virtual classrooms that usually operate live with the addition of an instructor, but most do not! Teaching a CD or website however have the advantage of being self-paced, but it provides no immediate feedback from a live instructor.

More preparation required on the part of the instructor: Delivering classes in an online education environment is different from delivering classes in a traditional classroom. Proper preparation is required in the former. Lessons must be prepared ahead of time, along with any notes and instructions that may accompany the teaching. Often it is necessary that the instructor not only understands the concepts that are being taught, but the technology being used to deliver that teaching. This implies that the skill-levels needed for online education instructors are much higher.

Not all people are comfortable with online education: With the urge of education for every age groups, there is a need to design courses suitable for students over a larger age-range, as well as students from different and varied backgrounds. In this concern, sometimes it becomes difficult to design online education environments suitable for everyone.
