Resumes are your first interaction with your future employer. That is why a lot of importance is given as far as crafting a professional resume is concerned. But a lot of people have different misconceptions about resumes. Some of them are:

  • Resumes should be kept to one page.
  • Personal information should be included. People think that it is extremely important to include information and details at a personal level.
  • Cover letters are no longer important in the digital age.
  • Hard cover resumes are more likely to get read than electronically submitted resumes.
  • Responsibilities are more important than any other thing, say, accomplishments.

We all know that the market out there is extremely tough. But still there are ample amount of good opportunities that are available in the market. You just need to put in your best move forward. One more thing, if by any how, you are a third baseman looking to switch teams, then it becomes extremely important for you to report your accomplishments on the field and at the bat are more important rather than positioning the tasks. Yes, I forget to write this, you must always include what you have accomplished i.e. "grew the design group from five to 30 people, and other such things.

I am myself a recruiter and have received thousands of resumes over the past few years. I have also received resumes with hammers from construction people. I would like to recite my personal experience in front of you. Once, I received a resume with a shoe attached. I mean it was not a big shoe, but a small souvenir in the shape of a shoe. Very small in fact. When I called the candidate and asked him about that, he said the wanted to get their "foot in the door." I know that these methods are immensely creative but don't you think that they are a waste of time. I didn't feel bad but that does not mean that some other person would not feel bad. Also hard copy resumes are out and electronically submitted resumes get interviews. They are in!
