The US Department of Labor has dedicated one week for promoting drug awareness as well as importance of being dug free in the office. The campaign not only focuses on being drug free, but also provide an opportunity to individuals to get rid of their drug or alcohol related problems.

The campaign is carried out by running different workplace programs that look at positive and negative implications of drug abuse. The researchers of Buffalo's Research Institute on Addictions came out with striking facts in 2007. It told that an estimated 17.7 million working adults were under the influence of drugs. The more worrying information was that 3.9 million do so before reporting to work or during the work hours. The drug free week will help the employees, supervisors and workers in implementing an effective, drug free program focusing on detection and deterrence.

The European Government is also get more inclined towards the work environment and is spending a week on improving the health and safety at work place. It has told businesses that 'risk assessment' is the theme of the year and prevention is better than cure.

The first step of European Government involves identifying what exactly the hazards are and the segment of individuals at potential risk. Only talking and discussing about the risks is not only important, but individuals need to come up with the steps that need to be taken during the prevention planning stages. After seeing the actions that are required to implement, companies can monitor and review their capabilities as a prevention measure.
