The Quality Of Coffee Matters A Lot

A day remains incomplete without a cup of coffee. Coffee, nowadays, has become an important ingredient of our diets. But what if the quality of coffee is not up to the mark? Will it be ok for you to compromise with your cup of coffee? I hope not. So, its very important for you to know what all factors are responsible for deteriorating the quality of coffee and how can you distinguish between its good or bad quality.

The chief factors that will determine the quality of coffee are:

  • What is the quality of coffee beans that are being used?
  • What is the quality of water being used in the coffee making process?
  • Whether the brewing equipment is clean or not?
  • How much time it has been since the coffee beans were grounded or roasted?

The quality of the coffee beans is the most significant of all of these, but the best of beans will also fail if all the other factors are not at up to the mark.

The coffee beans that are freshly grounded and roasted are of higher quality. But if you go to a supermarket in the hope of getting high quality coffee beans, then your hopes will be shattered. The numerous jars of coffee piled up on the shelves of the supermarket for a long time will not be fresh at all.

The coffee jars available at such stores contain large amounts of robusta that are low quality Arabica beans and are from past crops (old) beans. But coffee beans are of better quality only when the arabica content in them is hundred percent. For a complete Arabica blend, you should go and buy coffee from specialty coffeehouses. There too you should opt for popular blends because such blends are regularly in stock. So you will get maximum freshness.

Some supermarkets grind coffee in-house. If you wish to purchase coffee beans from them, then it will be better for you to ask the workers when the coffee was grounded. But you may not always get a reply from them. So the other alternative is to grind your own coffee. It will be the best possible freshness that you can get.

Here are a few steps involved in preparing a perfect cup of coffee:

  • Get the best quality coffee beans, preferably from specialty coffeehouses, as I already mentioned earlier. If you have a favorite flavor, then purchase the beans in that flavor.
  • The next step involves the grinding of the beans. So buy a good quality coffee grinder. You will be able to grind the quantity that you presently need. So you will have the best freshness.
  • It should then be stored in a plastic or ceramic airtight container because air oxidizes the coffee making it bitter. Metal canisters can also negatively affect the taste of coffee. It should never be stored in a refrigerator but at normal room temperature.
  • While buying a coffee maker, make sure that there is a permanent filter in it. You must clean it after each use, occasionally with the help of vinegar as well.
  • The quality of your coffee also depends upon the kind of water that is used. Try to use water that is free from chlorine and minerals. Bottled water, instead of tap water will improve the quality of your coffee. The water should be at a temperature of about 200 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Lastly, use the right amount of coffee beans and coffee grounds in the maker. It's always better to consume your cup of coffee when it's hot and fresh.

So never compromise with the quality of your coffee because a cup of coffee makes your day.
