All you wine lovers; here are all the details that you need to know in order to own a wine refrigerator of your own. It's not something that only the rich people and wine snobs can boast about. If you enjoy wine or if you are someone who likes to collect and serve vintage wines, then a wine refrigerator will be a good addition in your home appliance collection.

A wine stored at an optimum temperature highlights its vintage flavor and taste. A “wine cooler”, as the wine refrigerators are also popularly known as, perfectly serves this purpose.

Difference between a Wine Refrigerator and a Wine Cellar

Some of the positive points that a wine cellar offers over a wine refrigerator include:

  • It provides the appropriate humidity required for storing wine.
  • It has different “climate zones” suitable for different kinds of wines.
  • The bottles can be shifted from one zone to the other in order to make it ready to be served.

But in spite of all these advantages, a wine refrigerator is still more preferable because:

  • A wine refrigerator is less expensive than a wine cellar.
  • It can be easily accommodated in your home. On the other hand, to build a wine cellar you need a separate room in you home.

Difference between a Regular Refrigerator and a Wine Refrigerator

  • In a regular refrigerator, the food has to be stored below 50 degrees. But the ideal temperature for storing wines is much higher than this.
  • A regular refrigerator is opened and closed a lot of times and that alters the temperature very often. However for storing wines, a stable temperature has to be maintained. Hence a different wine refrigerator is required.

The Size of a Wine Refrigerator

Wine refrigerators are available in many sizes and models. Some of them can accommodate six bottles and in some the storage capacity increases up to twenty or more bottles. Six bottles can easily fit into the countertop of the refrigerator. But a large size wine refrigerator has its own advantages. It is divided into different compartments that enable you to store the wines at different temperatures. Each type of wine will get its individual cooling temperature.

The Temperature At Which To Store Your Wine

You need to be very careful about the temperature at which you store different wines because individual wines have their own individual temperature tolerances. Either high temperature or low temperature is harmful for the wine. The storing and the serving temperature of a particular wine also differ sometimes.

  • Blush, rose and dry white wines should be stored at around 55 degrees and served at 46-57 degrees.
  • You need not store Champagne and sparkling wine in a wine refrigerator. But they should be served at 43-47 degrees.
  • The storing and the serving temperature of light red wines are the same i.e. 55 degrees.
  • You should store the full-bodied wines at temperatures below 55 degrees and serve at 59-66 degrees.

So if you are a wine enthusiast, then go and purchase a wine refrigerator. They are available in different storage capacities. You can choose the one that best suits your need.
