Most people have negative views regarding video games. They think most of the games are nothing more than just pointing several deadly weapons. People often see them as waste of time, instead of going out and getting a real job. But, if we see, there a many video games, that actually provide a noble purpose in our society. These can make people smarter!

Such useful video games are built on logic and reasoning, and they involve complex problem solving. Take the example of Take Tetris. It is a couple of colored blocks set against a metallic, monotonous sound track, which takes some degree of analysis and quick thinking in order to assess the shape of the pieces dropping from the top of the screen and deciding where to put it. Factor in this game speeds up periodically, and the pile of blocks grows with every mistake you make, until you reach a point when one wrong move can kill your chances of breaking the world record. Under such situation, does not your brain start working fast? This means, faster than you would normally use it in the course of the day or the stuff you do at your office. Thus, Tetris really proves to be helpful for you.

Other such games are the memory games. Memory games can work on brain muscle, that you do not forget the important things. According to studies, memory is not really a function of IQ, but it is a skill or the ability to organize information in your brain, and then retrieve it through a series of memory-triggers. However, not all of this is conscious though! But, the thing is that like all skills, it improves with use, and so does a memory game.
