People who look forward to get assistance with their businesses are now a days opting for government grants. These grants are really helpful, but they can not be given to everyone. So, here is some more information about the government grants.

The person receiving government grants is required to meet all the obligations imposed by the government on him. He should submit the progress report at regular intervals, so that government knows that the grant is given to the right person.

The total money received as a grant should meet the criteria of the government. Those declared bankruptcy can even get government grants. If a person is more than eighteen years, pays tax and is the citizen of the country, he is eligible to get the government grant for running a business.

Government grants are of two types. The first one is an operating support grant, which is meant for operating and paying off general expenses while running a business. This type of grant is given only when the government supports the goal of an organization.

The second type of grant is a start-up grant, which is offered as an assistance to the business that has just started. This grant is given for more than an year's time. The government can decrease the value of the grant every years, as it expects that the business will grow over within that time. The business owner is also asked to submit a progress report about the start-up work and the improvement after regular time.

The equipment and facility grants are another types that can be used as government grants. These helps in financing the material and physical space of a business. While applying for these grants, the applicant will be required to explain how the materials are necessary for his business. Progress report is also needed to be sent in this case.

Government also gives grant for non-profit businesses, which are called endowment grants. Such grants are meant for raising the funds for work and services provided by non-profit groups. Because the rate of interest of the principal sum remains same, there is no need for the endowment grant to fit into the total operating expenses the business will have to handle.

The last type of grant offered by government is a program related investment. This is a low interest grant provided to a non-profit organization, but is required to be paid back on time.

The government also offers other types of grants like scholarship grants, which are used by students to pay their college education fees, and they are not required to pay back anything for some time period.

It does not matter, which government grant you have applied for. The applicant will have to send progress reports of the work he is doing after regular time period. The report will include all types of information required like the performance of the business, areas where the grant amount is used and more.
