Protect Your Skin from the Scorching Sun

Who would like to step out of their homes in the sweltering heat of summers? Especially when you are worried about your skin being spoiled by sunburn or a heat stroke. If you think that this immediate effect on your skin is the only harm that the blazing sun will cause you, then you are wrong. It may lead to more sinister results, like skin cancer, later in your life. The sun will also leave you more susceptible to developing wrinkles.

Scared? Well, here are some tips that will help you in protecting yourself from the harsh ultra violet rays of the sun. After all, you can't afford to be locked up in your home throughout the summers!

  • Never use a sun lotion for more than two years. Check its expiry date and go for a new bottle. New ones are more effective.
  • Some delicate portions of your skin like feet; nose, shoulders, chest and even the backside of your ears are more prone to the stroke of the sun. So, apply more cream on those areas.
  • Always check that the sunscreen you are using has an SPF of 15.
  • Your beautiful hair will dry out in the sun. So, to protect your scalp and hair, it's better to use hats.
  • Though the face foundations also contain SPF, but you can't completely rely on them. Foundation is to be used sparingly on your face. It’s not meant to be caked on like a mask.
  • If you prefer using your own moisturizer then purchase a sunscreen that you can wear over it and under the makeup.

The procedure of applying sunscreen on your face is as follows:

  • First apply the moisturizer on your face.
  • Let it be absorbed for 10 minutes.
  • Then apply your sunscreen.
  • On top of that you can apply your make up.

  • You should apply the sunscreen at least 20 minutes before you go out in the sun.
  • Reapply it after short intervals, especially if you have been lolloping about in the swimming pool.
  • Don't be stingy while using your sunscreen. Always apply enough so that it covers your skin sufficiently.
  • You should not avoid using your lotion even if you are sitting in the shade. Even on a cloudy day it is said that 80% of UV rays can still reach us. So never forget to apply a sunscreen.
  • If you don’t like the heavy feeling of some sunscreens, you also have the option of gels or sprays that have a considerably lighter feel on the skin.

So, don't be scared of summers. Take the above precautions and enjoy the sunshine, with a sunscreen.
