What Leads to Hypertension in Teens?

Hypertension is directly related to high blood pressure. If you are diagnosed with hypertension, then it is better you take it seriously or else your like will be at a risk. The problem can also lead to chronic renal failure. Hypertension poses some great risks to those who are prone to heart problems, attacks and strokes.

We believe that hypertension is a medical condition that is limited to only adults. But this is not the case always. You may not find this problem in kids and teens, but still it is not possible to go with the above statement. Therefore, it is always better that you bring your child to the doctor for occasional blood pressure tests.

The chances of high blood pressure in teens is relatively low in comparisons to adults. In case of teens below 18, if you have a blood pressure higher than 95% of the teens of their age, height or gender, than you will be considered to have a hypertension. As you will grow older, the blood pressure readings will be thrice as high as that of an average person.

The problem of hypertension arise from kidney malfunction, aorta troubles and hormonal disturbances. It is also possible that high blood pressure gets genetically passed on from parents to their kids. So, if your family have a history of hypertension, then it is always better to check on your kid's blood pressure. Older kids must get their blood pressure checked after two years and overweight kids have higher chances of hypertension, so they must get it checked often. To avoid the problem, it is advisable that you exercise everyday to shed off some pounds at a young age.

Intake of prohibited drugs and alcohol can increase the risk of hypertension for teenagers. They should also avoid birth control pills, which increases the blood pressure.
