There is no doubt that cricket is one of the most popular sports, that is loved by people all over the world. And when it comes to one day cricket, nothing can beat this sport in terms of excitement. The one day cricket game involves matches, characterised by much shorter duration, as compared to test cricket. This is the reason as why many players who play in test cricket are not often seen in the one day team and vice versa.

There are certain qualities that a player needs to have in order to play one day cricket. To be a successful one day cricket player, the person needs to be able to improvise and think on his feet. It does not matter if the player has technical deficiencies, because in one day matches, these are not exposed, since they are shorter form of the game.

Batting in one day cricket usually involves lots of big hitting with the ball, often disappearing to the boundary on a regular basis for four or six runs. Improvisation is an integral part of batting in one day cricket. In these types of cricket, bowling requires to be very tight and accurate. Unlike test cricket, in one day cricket the umpires are very strict, where wide deliveries are concerned and a hint of width is often penalised. In one day cricket, the teams usually rely on their two most reliable bowlers to bowl the last few overs so that they can keep the scoring rate down.

Fielding is an important part of one day cricket. Thus, we can see any successful one day team works very hard in the field. Fielding involves quick and accurate return throwing in order to put pressure on the batsmen. If the ball is swiftly returned to the wicket keeper, the batsmen is not likely to push for an extra run.

High class fielding also results in the fall of wickets due to batsmen being run out. Run outs are very common in one day cricket, because the onus is on the batsmen to score lots of runs as fast as possible. The batsmen take the risk, and therefore run outs are inevitable.
