If you've seen tennis matches or had conversations with many coaches. Then you'd definitely agree that keeping your eyes on the ball and head down is one of the best advices for tennis players. We can break this statement down to the basic level as it relates to the contact point.

Though, most players find it difficult to achieve this goal but once they successfully achieve this goal they'll find major change in their game. Federer is considered to be one of the best examples who has master this art.

Gallwey's bonce/hit is believed to be the appropriate drill which can reinforce this. The principle says that when you say one/two while hitting the ball then your eyes are on the ball as close to contact point as humanly possible. You'll notice that most high school athletes practicing this method as more age appropriate.

The best way to coach tennis players is to encourage them to say this under their breath every time they hit a tennis ball. If they miss to hit the ball then ask them whether they said one/two under their breath or in your mind's eye.

In other words, keeping your eyes on where the ball was and contact point is one of the most important step to succeed in playing tennis.
