Many times, some minor health problems ruin your holiday trip. Is not it? But, obviously, right food, drinks and supplements can help reduce the risk, thereby having a trouble-free holiday. Here is what to do:

  • Avoid having big meals before traveling. Moreover, do not have dairy products, salads and fruit, because they can be acidic! You can consider eating dry food, such as crackers or ginger biscuits. According to studies, ginger have a positive effect on motion sickness. Ginger capsules and ginger sweets are easily found everywhere.
  • If you are flying, keep in mind that the air on an aircraft is much dryer than normal air. This is why, there are chances of dehydration. Therefore, try to drink plenty of water.
  • Keeping yourself hydrated is also important in order to reduce the risk of DVT or deep vein thrombosis. It is a good idea to take an omega-3 fatty acid supplement for a few weeks before traveling. This helps thin the blood, thereby making it less likely to clot.
  • Instead of having alcohol or caffeine, take herbal teas and water on long flights.
  • In order to help yourself adjust to a new time zone as well as reduce jet lag after a long haul flight, have carbohydrate rich food like pasta, which will increase the production of serotonin in the brain and will help you sleep. Avoid having protein rich meal like fish or chicken, which will have opposite effect.
  • If you are prone to traveler's diarrhea, take a probiotic supplement or sip a probiotic yogurt drink daily for a few weeks before traveling.
  • There are some food items that can help prevent sun damage to skin cells. According to studies, selenium found in Brazil nuts, beta carotene found in carrots, and lycopene in tomatoes can help you in this respect.
